Color photograph of Grand Valley's 2002 production of "Mother Courage." In this image a crowd of ragged people and two soldiers wearing comical masks listen to a monologue from a woman in center stage. She holds an empty dish in one hand and with the other makes a wide, sweeping gesture. Behind her is a large, rusted cart. On it stands a young woman. To the left the solders stand with a spear and gun. To the right two young men stand together. All the performers' costumes are inspired by the 17th century. The set behind is made with tall stone columns, behind which is piled old discarded appliances and other trash, with a black tarp as the backdrop.
