I believe that if you create the space for beauty and love, then beauty and love will flourish. Even if some beautiful things are fleeting, and prone to fly away. The communities we make and participate in while we are at college are often impermanent. Still, their beauty and importance cannot be understated, and more will surely follow in their wake. So long as students are given the space, resources, and freedom to create them. I love the community and services. Being at GVSU, I am mostly removed from that community nowadays, mostly by my own choice. Photovoice made me realize how I miss that community, and, fortunately, it has offered me a space to exercise this identity despite removing myself from the past ways I practiced. I am proud to be a part of their team, and explore my Judaism further in the future after reflecting on photovoice conversations. It offered a safe and welcoming space for discussing a sensitive topic like religion openly. Sharing my beliefs without fear of judgment allowed me to explore my spirituality and share a deeper aspect of myself with others. It made me realize that behind every face we encounter lies a unique story, full of personal practices and challenges. Learning about others' experiences was truly enlightening. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to engage in such meaningful dialogue, and I will miss the sense of safety and community that this space provided. Moving forward, I believe it's crucial to expand such initiatives to involve more people. As a Muslim, I often feel the weight of being a minority, facing judgment and criticism when discussing religion. Having a platform like this to address misconceptions and foster understanding was invaluable to me. I hope to see more opportunities like this in the future, where individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together, share their stories, and build bridges of empathy and understanding.
