Steeve Buckridge was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He became a professor at Grand Valley State University several years ago. He is an Associate Professor of African and Caribbean History and Associate Faculty in African and African American Studies. Also this year he became GVSU's Director of Area Studies. In 2004, he published his first novel, The Language of Dress: Resistance and Accommodation in Jamaica, 1780-1890. This book discusses how freed and enslaved women used their fashion and style of dress as a symbol of resistance to slavery and accommodation to white culture in pre- and post- emancipation society. He discusses the differences between discrimination in Jamaica and discrimination in Grand Rapids and some of his experiences with it.

Robert Robson is a military veteran who was born and raised in Grand Rapids. He signed a contract with the navy in 1962 and spent 4 years in active duty and 2 years in the inactive reserves. He has a lot of memories from his time in the navy and talked about his views on the military and being a veteran in the United States. Growing up in Grand Rapids he had a lot of stories about some of the things that have been changing in the area including diversity.
