John Bennitt to his wife [Letter 100]
Correspondence from surgeon John Bennitt of Centreville, Michigan to his wife Charlotte, October 9, 1863. During this time, Bennitt_s regiment is ordered to McMinnville, Tennessee, to garrison the town on a Confederate communications route. Bennitt tours the Stones River battlefield and reports on the conditions of the people of Tennessee, and the formation of U.S. Colored Infantry regiments.
