Pauline Baynes, English illustrator

Tolkien's minor works and later became well-known for her cover illustrations for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, in addition to all seven volumes of C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia. In the photograph, Baynes is leaning against a wooden gate with a sign that reads, "Rock Barn Cottage," for the cottage located in the background. Scanned from the negative.
