In the photograph, two young black men can be seen in the foreground holdings signs that say, "Black Men Should Fight White Racism, Not Vietnamese Freedom Fighters," while others hold signs in the background in addition to a poster of Malcolm X. The peace rally took place as a part of the "Spring Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam" and assembled in Central Park before marching to the United Nations Headquarters building in Manhattan.
