Black and white photograph of the memorial rally that took place in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in New York City's Central Park. In the photograph, two young men from the W.E.B. DuBois Clubs are seen holding protest posters among the crowd that read, "White House Racism Murdered Martin Luther King " and "Martin Luther King was Murdered for Fighting Racism, War, Poverty, and Injustice." The photographs taken by Douglas Gilbert on this historic day document New York's reaction to the news of Dr. King's assassination in Memphis, Tennessee, on the previous day.
